For the first time ever, the Haiti Tech Summit team is hosting a free and digital edition of the annual mega summit with over 4000 participants and 100 plus speakers on October 8 and 9 this week.
“We’re so excited to welcome 4000 digital delegates, 100 global speakers over the course of two days to unify a global community to see what’s happening in the tech ecosystem in Haiti but more importantly, how Haiti is going to be leveraging tech to change the direction of the future,” says founder of the summit and Forbes 30 Under 30 Entrepreneur Christine Souffrant Ntim.
Sogebank, the second leading financial group in Haiti is a top sponsor of this year’s summit. Other partners include the US Embassy Haiti, Essence, the Haitian Times, Digital Ocean, Microsoft, and Facebook.
“On behalf of Sogebank, I want to say how delighted we are to be a partner in this fourth edition of the Haiti Tech Summit,” says Tatiana Policard Bernadel of Sogebank. “We are indeed proud to be associated with an event with such global reach, progressive platform, that brings together entrepreneurs, investors, creatives, and celebrities from all around the world.
Haiti Tech Summit is a 13-year initiative of the Global Startup Ecosystem (GSE), which has focused on entrepreneurship and employment and aims to target education from 2023 to 2025. Every year this event brings together entrepreneurs, investors, celebrities, and creatives to accomplish a common goal of transforming Haiti into an international technology hub.
Despite challenges each year, the summit took place against all the odds and made notable impacts in Haiti’s tech space. The event facilitated various tech contributions, including launching entrepreneurial incubators, attracting initiatives by Facebook, Google, and Airbnb to Haiti, and recently launching programs offering mentorship for entrepreneurs and career development training.
Since its launch in 2017, the summit has garnered support from several global businesses and prominent individuals in the tech space. Speakers at the event included Jack Dorsey, the co-founder of Twitter and Square, and Tom Davis, Chief Marketing Officer of Forbes Magazine.
The Haiti Tech team recently announced billionaire investor Ben Horowitz as the first Headline Speaker. Horowitst is also a New York Times bestselling author of What You Do Is Who You Are: How to Create Your Business Culture.
During the 2-day event, attendees will have the opportunity to attend different breakout sessions according to the organizers. Also, participants of Haiti Digital Career Accelerator, Haiti’s first and only national digital accelerator program launched in July this year, will receive certificates for completing the program. Over 200 applicants were selected for this program, and the top 55 participants who completed the program went on to complete remote internships.
Although the COVID-19 pandemic has affected many scheduled events around the world, digital platforms have been viable alternative to buildings for events, significantly increasing the attendee quantity limit. This year the Haiti Tech Summit team says the summit will have over 4000 attendees, a notable increase compared to the 1000 plus attendees in the past.
Tickets for the summit are free for participants. There are also options to purchase tickets as a VIP participant for 99 USD or a VIP exhibitor for 199 USD. To register and purchase tickets, visit eventbrite.com.
